Straya Cash took me six months to design and started a national conversation literally overnight.
I launched the project via Facebook at 9:30pm on Sunday 18 October. Next morning it had 700 likes and by the time I got to work I’d been contacted by several media organisations.
Over the next couple of days, Straya Cash was widely shared across social media, online publications, news broadcasts and TV shows. I chatted to Karl on the Today Show and gave about 30 radio interviews over the course of the week. The whole experience was daunting, but rad.
I was stoked that the idea started a national conversation and in some cases a fierce debate. I lol’d a lot while reading people’s reactions to the designs. Most saw the humorous side of the idea. But some folks took it way too seriously.
A big thank you every journalist, radio host and TV presenter, and everyone who liked, shared and commented (even the haters).
I’ve collected some of the articles, TV clips, radio interviews, and tweets where Straya Cash was featured. Click on the pictures to go to the articles.

THE PROJECT CH 10
I’m currently working on a follow up: re-designing the coins. It’s called ‘Straya Shrapnel’ at this stage. The people have been picked based on the demands Australians made in the online comments on the Straya Cash. As well as suggestions people have told me personally. Should be a bit of fun. Aiming for a Straya Day release.
